A major newspaper reported on Wednesday June 7th that a disable shopper has launched legal action against a retail giant as a result of not being able to get into one of their shops.
This is not the first time a disable shopper has taken a retail giant to court, and is becoming more and more common as a result of the introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act, which came into force in October 2004.
This act requires shops to take reasonable steps to make their premises as accessible as possible.
It was estimated that four in ten of the retail giant's shops are inaccessible to disabled people. As a result disabled shoppers do not have the same freedom as a non-disabled person because there's no alternative to a flight of stairs.
