In November 2006 the United Arab Emirates Federal Government passed UAE Disability Act (Federal Law No.29/2006) to protect the rights of people with disabilities and special-needs. One of the principles of this new Law requires that people with disabilities and special-needs must be provided with equitable disabled access and related facilities into all new property development projects.
It is estimated that in the MENA region there are approximately thirty (30) million people with special-needs. Providing accessibility to this significant percent of the population is not only a social and moral obligation it offers a huge retail business opportunity.
Platform Lift Company Middle East LLC is supplying disabled access platform lifts for the Dubai Metro project. In full operation, Dubai Metro is projected to carry approximately 1.2 million passengers on an average day, and 355 million passengers per year.
Platform Lift Company Middle East LLC called on experience from similar projects in Europe to specify and design platform lifts suitable for Dubai Metro. Exclusively manufactured in Sweden, the A-Type vertical platform lifts provide disability access from the elevated bridge way to the concourse.
Once complete, The Dubai Metro will be one of the most advanced urban rail systems in the world and will be the catalyst for tourism, financial and economic growth.
